The Big Unveiling

This is a time of profound change. Do you feel it?

The upheaval, the angst. The metamorphosis, the healing. Pain. Relief. Agony. Ecstasy. There are always two ways to tell any story, sometimes in diametrically opposed ways. There is always balance in the plan, but at times – especially in difficult times – we must be willing to be vulnerable and receptive to actually see this balance.

The most important thing you can do is to decide:  How are you going to tell your story?

No-Deprivation Diets & The 3 Levels of Evolutionary Eating ™

If you think all diets are cringe-worthy, think again. A good “diet” is one that is deliciously varied, flexible, rich, and that works for your unique body and lifestyle. Evolving your relationship with food can help you stop with the fads, restrictions, and “shoulds” and discover a way of eating that your body, taste buds, and life can all thrive on.

Delicious Health Presents The 3 Levels of Evolutionary Eating TM

Level 1: Impulsive The most primitive way of eating with very low bodily awareness. You go by the dictum “I want” and make choices mostly based on perceived convenience and immediate gratification. Often lends itself to mindless or emotional eating, unwanted weight gain, burnout/fatigue, and a host of chronic health issues.

2011 Resolutions, Deliciously Resolved!

January is typically a month when people get motivated and serious about their health. Whether your plans include joining a gym or trying a new diet to shed extra holiday pounds, the New Year starts with the best of intentions.

But very few people stay motivated. Often after only a few weeks of trying an extreme diet or exercise program, we slip back into old habits and feel guilty for not being able to maintain our goals. Is this you?

What’s Your Food Personality?

We all have food personalities that we have developed over the years. Some of these traits may feel good in the moment, but they don’t serve your ultimate health goals.

I’ve identified the top food personalities that I see in my own clients. I relate to many of them as I struggled with some of the same habits for years. You may not believe it, but I was once a quadruple latte drinker and now, if I had even one cup, I’d be a wreck for days.

What’s your food personality and is it working for you? Or do you want to deal with it… deliciously?

Garbage Ahoy! Bon Voyage, Plastiki!

Delicious Health founder Simla Somturk Wickless serves as pro bono nutritionist for the Plastiki crew.

February brought a fantastic opportunity for me to serve as the pro bono nutritionist for the Plastiki crew. A big thanks to our friends at Cook! SF for making the introduction.

One very cool catamaran.

What is the Plastiki?

The Plastiki is a 60-foot catamaran made from 12,500 reclaimed plastic bottles. It will sail from San Francisco to Sydney this month (March 2010), weather permitting, to bring attention to the world’s wasteful use of resources as well as to the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, estimated to be about twice the size of Texas – the world’s largest “land”fill.
